The Invasive Paper Project
The More We Get Together
Handmade paper with non-native plants, Detroitus totems, paper-making station
Dimensions vary upon installation
2015
This work is about collaboration between many individuals. I ask that the viewer join in the paper-making process with me and add to this growing installation. The paper is made of non-native species and invasives that have been removed from city parks and lots in Detroit. I have been challenging notions about our urban landscape, what we consider native, non-native, and invasive and how these distinctions arose. Over 200 people from around the Detroit region and beyond (folks from Spain, California - you name it!) came in and made paper with me.
