Growing up in Michigan, I spent countless hours in swamps and other watery borderlands. These places teemed with life, sounds, smells and opportunities for exploration. With time, I came to understand that swamps are undesirable and frightening places. This unfounded fear has driven their destruction with well over 50% of the original swamps being drained or filled in the State.
With this work, I am bringing fun to the swamp, reimagining the joy and wonder I experience in these spaces and luring the viewer in to feel the same. I want people to consider this landscape, these plants, and forms anew - as a generative and engaging space.
